It has come to our attention there seems to be an issue with the performance and reliability of the Wi-Fi on Raspberry Pi 4s when they are connected at certain resolutions. This issue is not exclusive to using the device on a Plume Network but will affect it on any Wi-Fi network.
Cause
While not completely confirmed, the poor shielding from certain Micro HDMI adapters and cables seems to be causing interference, which is causing the issue with the Wi-Fi connection.
The issue only presents itself when using the Pi 4 at certain resolutions and with some HDMI cables and adapters. More information as it develops can be found in the Raspberry Pi forums here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1572462&sid=37fa8fd983a6b14178974579e20d20ad#p1572462
Workaround
Until Raspberry Pi can find a way to mitigate the issue, the following seems to help:
- Use 5 GHz to connect the Pi to the Wi-Fi instead of 2.4 GHz.
- Ensure to use a high quality HDMI adapter and well shielded cables.
- Use lower display resolutions that do not seem to cause too much of an issue.
- 1920x1080 (works in some situations but results tend to be problematic)
- 1680x1050
- 1440x900
- 1280x960
- 1280x800
- 1024x768
- Use Ethernet to connect the Pi to a pod instead of the Wi-Fi.
